چکیده

Due to the storage limitation and imperfect prediction, mobile computing devices may experience large delays when accessing data on the distributed file systems. Flinn et al. [4] have proposed a novel architecture, called Data Staging, in which nearby untrusted and unmanaged surrogates are used as the secondary file cache for the client to reduce the remote file operation latency. A prototype system built on top of the Coda file system, Data Staging on Coda (DS-CODA), has been developed and its success has been demonstrated in preliminary experiments. In this project, we implemented Data Staging on the widely deployed Sun Network File System [15] (DS-NFS) and evaluated its performance. Although there are significant differences in the design of Coda and NFS, DS-NFS is able to show an improvement of read performance by up to 42.8% based on the synthetic PostMark benchmark [8]. In addition, we show that delaying writes in DS-NFS has little effect on the performance given the current Linux NFS client implementation. This study, coupled with previous studies on DS-CODA, demonstrates that Data Staging is a valid architecture for improving performance of data accessing across different distributed file systems over the wide area network.

Design and Implementation of a Distributed Nfs Server on Cluster of Workstations

The paper presents the design and implementation of a distributed NFS server which consists of multiple computers. The distributed NFS server provides the identical NFS file service as the traditional NFS server. No modification of client software is needed to use the distributed NFS service. The purpose of the distributed NFS server is to replace large collections of NFS servers. In addition, ...

NFS-cc: tuning NFS for concurrent read sharing

A common file access pattern found in cluster applications is concurrent read sharing: applications running on multiple sites read access the same dataset concurrently. Traditional network file systems are limited by the server’s network bandwidth; therefore cannot satisfy the high-bandwidth concurrent reads that cluster applications typically require. This paper presents NFS-cc: a cooperative ...

A Caching NFS Client for Linux

The Linux NFS client suffers from poor performance. As Linux has become more popular, its primitive NFS client implementation has outgrown its usefulness. We describe numerous enhancements to the Linux NFS client that improve performance. Specifically, we discuss better lookup and attribute caching, asynchronous writing of data, and local disk caching of data file reads. We describe our impleme...

A Performance Comparison of NFS and iSCSI for IP-Networked Storage

IP-networked storage protocols such as NFS and iSCSI have become increasingly common in today’s LAN environments. In this paper, we experimentally compare NFS and iSCSI performance for environments with no data sharing across machines. Our microand macro-benchmarking results on the Linux platform show that iSCSI and NFS are comparable for data-intensive workloads, while the former outperforms l...

Patterning the surface roughness of a nano fibrous scaffold for transdermal drug release

The main objective of this paper was to manipulate the Nano Fibrous Scaffold "NFS" surface roughness to achieve a new transdermal drug release profile. To assess the intrinsic mechanical properties of Nylon 6 or polycaprolactam, such as its proper resiliency, it was considered as the matrix. Cetirizine was used as a drug model and was loaded (1% w/v) to polymer solution (30%w/v) before spinning...
